Inside the intimate Chanel pre-BAFTA dinner in Mayfair

Lily Depp, Emilia Clarke and Jessie Buckley led the A-List guest list at London's most exclusive private members' club

It may be one of the most glittering events in British cinema, but Chanel stole the show at this year’s BAFTAs. The couture house co-hosted its annual pre-awards party with businessman and producer Charles Finch at 5 Hertford Street, gathering together the biggest names in fashion, film, art and music at the Mayfair private members club.

Amongst the guests to enjoy dinner and drinks – followed by dancing in downstairs nightclub Loulou’s – was model, actress and Chanel brand ambassador Lily-Rose Depp, who dazzled in a gold beaded couture slip dress from the autumn/winter 2019 Haute Couture collection. To complement Depp’s look, makeup artist Christophe Danchaud used Chanel beauty.

Make-up artist Christophe Danchaud prepped Lily’s skin with Hydra Beauty Micro Serum and Hydra Beauty Crème before adding a healthy glow with Les Beiges Eaux de Teint Medium Light, Chanel’s first water-fresh tint. Baume Essentiel Golden Light and Sculpting was then used to give Depp a subtle radiance, before adding illumination with Éclat Lumière Highlighter Face Pen 20 – Beige Clair and Éclat du Désert Exclusive Creation. Danchaud accentuated Lily’s cheekbones using Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick Stick Blush N°24.

On Lily’s eyes, Danchaud applied Les 4 Ombres 352 – Elemental and Stylo Ombre et Contour 34 – Contour Brun and Le Volume de CHANEL 10 – Noir and Le Gel Sourcils 370 – Brun. Le Crayon Lèvres 93 – Beige Innocent highlighted Lily’s lip contour before the application of Le Rouge Crayon de Couleur Mat 257 – Discrétion as the finishing touch.

Depp wasn’t the only star in head-to-toe Chanel, with many of the partygoers dressed by the inimitable French maison for the occasion, including a number of BAFTA nominees. Jessie Buckley, nominated for Best Leading Actress for her role in Wild Rose, rocked a pearl-studded leather jacket from the spring/summer 2016 collection accessorised with beige gold Coco Crush earrings from Chanel Fine Jewellery, finishing off the look with a dark blue manicure using Chanel Le Vernis in Bleu Trompeur.

The following evening, Chanel was in the spotlight again, with Lily-Rose Depp sweeping up the red carpet for the 73rd British Academy Film Awards, setting camera bulbs popping in a black lace bodysuit from the pre-fall collection, over which she had layered a black slip, accessorising with diamond cuff bracelets and a pair of peep toe pumps.

Margot Robbie – double-nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her roles in Bombshell and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood – may have lost out to Renee Zellweger on the night, but she was a winner in the style stakes, in a lace Chanel Spring 2020 Haute Couture peplum gown.
