If you’re in Mayfair, don’t miss the chance to catch Alexi Lubomirski’s new show The Sittings (2003-2023) at Claridge’s ArtSpace. The photographer has captured the great and the good of fashion, celebrity and royalty, and this exhibition brings together a collection of his most famous portraits from the last 20 years.
Claridge’s ArtSpace in Mayfair has announced its new spring exhibition – The Sittings (2003-2023) by Alexi Lubomirski – and it promises to be well worth a visit. The show, which opens on Monday 24 April, is a collection of portraits taken by the New York-based celebrity and fashion photographer over the past two decades.
Since his early days as an assistant to Mario Testino, Lubomirski has gone on to enjoy an illustrious career, photographing everyone from Hollywood royalty (Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lopez and Lupita Nyong’o…) to actual royalty (he took Harry and Meghan’s engagement photos, as well as capturing their wedding day, describing it as an “honour”). He is, of course, also a regular contributor to all the glossies, as well as shooting campaigns for the likes of Dior Parfums, Tommy Hilfiger and Valentino.
This exhibition, which coincides with the launch of Lubomirski’s new book of the same name, brings together a selection of his most famous portraits taken over the last 20 years – some published, others never-before-seen. Curated by Tom Usher, Creative Director at Hearst Publications in partnership with Harper’s Bazaar, you’ll see Julia Roberts, Serena Williams, Kate Winslet, Jared Leto, Zendaya, Cate Blanchett, Zoë Kravitz and Samuel L. Jackson on the walls, as well as portraits specially commissioned by Hearst publications including images of Viola Davis and Elle Fanning.
This is the sixth exhibition at Claridge’s ArtSpace since it opened in October 2021. The space, which has its own entrance on Brook’s Mews, was created as part of the hotel’s ongoing commitment to creating a dynamic, cultural experience for both its guests and Londoners. Architect John Pawson is behind the design, including the recently-opened ArtSpace café where art lovers can fortify themselves post-exhibition with a glass of Champagne and madeleines. It’s here you’ll also be able to purchase a copy of Lubomirski’s book, with a public signing taking place during the evening of Wednesday 25 April (5pm to 7pm).
‘The Sittings (2003-2023)’ is from Monday 24 April to Monday 15 May
