With the recent changes in season and temperatures, plus the stress on skin caused by wearing masks, I’ve been reaching for skincare foundations that do more than just deliver coverage. The whole foundation category has been going in a new direction I really like – using skincare’s most advanced science in their formulas, to offer so many skin-boosting benefits. Here are my pick of the best skincare foundations that I’m wearing right now.
Shiseido
30ml, £41
This new foundation gives incredible luminosity and really delivers on that perfected skin look. It’s super hydrating and it makes the skin look so dewy while giving you medium to high coverage. It has a SPF30, comes in 30 shades and it’s very blendable and lightweight. I like to apply with a brush and then pat it in because I think it helps it last longer with wearing a mask. It feels like nothing on your skin and it’s deeply hydrating, too.
Elizabeth Arden
30ml, £31
This truly is a skin-caring foundation — ingredient wise, it includes hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E and lots of antioxidants. It delivers a light to medium finish and comes in an inclusive range of 40 shades. What’s really clever is that Elizabeth Arden has an online Shade Finder, where you can enter the shades of other foundations you have and use it to calculate which shade would best suit you.
Guerlain
30ml, £44
If you want more of a semi-matte finish, this is the one for you. This whole L’Essentiel franchise is great — their original foundation is an ultra light sheer formulation, but this one delivers a perfect finish for those with a more oily or combination skin type. It goes on seamlessly and will stay put even when wearing a mask.
Chantecaille
£120
Lighter in coverage than standard base thanks to its water-based formula, this clever cushion foundation delivers such a real-skin finish. It feels utterly weightless yet manages to slightly even the skin tone without any heaviness – just a natural-looking glow. The skincare formula contains both anti-ageing ingredients with the Bionymph Peptide Stem Cell Extract to boost collagen production and an anti-pollution shield to protect from urban dust and pollution particles to penetrate the skin.
Givenchy
£40
This is a brilliant option if you crave both coverage and intense hydration. The beauty of this liquid formula is its blendability, which glides on to completely even out the skin tone without ever looking heavy. Made with 97% natural origin ingredients, it looks luminous all day long and seamlessly blurs any redness and small imperfections.
