Alexander McQueen launches new Creators campaign to brighten up self-isolation

The British fashion house’s new weekly projects will encourage creativity during the Coronavirus lockdown

During this period of quarantine it can be easy to slip into a humdrum routine, devoid of the usual diversions – visiting that new restaurant or exploring the latest art exhibition – that we normally turn to in order to brighten up our days. But now Alexander McQueen has launched a new campaign to ensure we use this time at home wisely – by unlocking our creativity.

Through their new project, McQueen Creators, the fashion house’s followers are being invited to unleash their creativity by engaging artistically with their favourite pieces from a selection of images shared on the brand’s social media channels. “Find your sketchbook and chosen materials, screenshot the picture you’d like to sketch, and sketch, colour, or paint your favourite image,” the label wrote in a post on their Instagram account. They asked those taking part to then upload their artwork online, using the hashtag #McQueenCreators. The most inspiring and engaging works will then be shared across McQueen’s social media platforms.

A new concept is due to be released every week and will connect followers with the brand’s teams and collaborators through a series of digital tutorials. For their first week the project is taking inspiration from the recent Roses installation at Alexander McQueen’s New Bond Street open studio, where followers will be asked to sketch the sumptuous finale Rose dress from Autumn/Winter 2019. Submissions must be sent in by 6 April to be in with a chance of featuring on their social media channels.

Future projects will include 3-D creation and embroidery, as well as many more initiatives yet to be announced – keep an eye on their social media channels for regular updates. In the meantime, get ready to flex your creative muscles and come up with something worthy of the fashion house’s maverick founder himself.
