Best Dressed Pup: Gucci Launches its First Pet Collection
This season, Gucci is making the case for giving your pet a taste of luxury with the launch of its Gucci Pet Collection. Combining the brand’s well-honed craftsmanship with creative director Alessandro Michele’s penchant for retro colours and patterns, each piece is designed for the most stylish pets — and owners. An extension of the Gucci Lifestyle collection, which was launched in September 2021, the Gucci Pet Collection brings the brand’s playful, colourful aesthetic to a line of luxury pet accessories. From elegant leather leashes to made-to-order pet couches, the new line has everything a cherished cat or dog could want.
Inspired by a cabinet of curiosities, the whimsical and elegant designs reinterpret familiar motifs — including the classic GG logo — in new pet-specific designs, with each piece emphasising the house’s celebration of individuality. Classic leather leashes are available in varying lengths and patterns, from a simple design in light blue with gold metal detailing, to a French-inspired Herbarium print. There are a selection of collars and Air Tag cases too, which can be mixed and matched with the leashes for a clashing or complimentary effect.
The dressing up opportunities don’t stop there — after all, it would hardly be a designer pet collection without some brilliantly stylish clothing in the mix. Colours and patterns are bold and characteristically retro, with options ranging from a striped wool sweater dotted with strawberries, to a light cotton tee emblazoned with the geometric G motif in red, white and blue. Perhaps the most audacious of the pet clothing is the wool sweater that’s an explosion of pink fluff, with the pink bouclé wool body trimmed with a bordeaux red knit. Each of the patterns used can also be found in current womenswear collections, meaning there are countless opportunities to create coordinating looks.
In addition to the clothing, collars and leashes, Gucci has also ensured that your pet’s household essentials are equally stylish, standing out as design pieces that will happily find a place in any home. Mealtimes get an upgrade with the selection of bowls that range from classic ceramic bowls upgraded with the geometric GG design or Herbarium print, to a hexagonal design presented in beige and ebony GG Supreme canvas. For the most lavish of pet investments, Gucci is also offering a selection of made-to-order miniature couches on which pets can lounge the days away, cut in the Herbarium print in black and white or the geometric GG print in yellow or red.
Threaded throughout the entire collection is the house’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. Many of the Gucci Pet Collection items are crafted from recycled polyester, recycled cotton or Demetra, the groundbreaking new material that the house unveiled in June 2021 after two years of research and development. Made from animal-free raw materials that are primarily from renewable and bio-based sources, the soft, durable material is the perfect meeting of comfort and an eco-friendly ethos.
