Erdem and de Gournay have created the ultimate floral spring collection

The fashion designer and wallpaper brand have partnered to launch this season's most in-demand collaboration

What happens when two pattern powerhouses from the worlds of fashion and interiors collide? They create one of the most hotly-anticipated partnerships in decades. This unique collaboration between bespoke interiors company de Gournay and designer Erdem Moralioglu has resulted in exquisite wallpapers and whimsical fabrics that sing of springtime – here’s what you can expect from the collection.

De Gournay X Erdem 8Pin

In what is surely the design-fashion collaboration of the year, luxury interiors brand de Gournay, known for its inimitable Chinoiserie wallcoverings, sumptuous fabrics and porcelains, has joined forces with Erdem Moralioglu, founder of the eponymous womenswear label so beloved by the Duchess of Cambridge, Alexa Chung and Michelle Obama.

Together they have created an exquisite new collection of wallpapers and a fabric line, which runs through Erdem’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection, both offering a joyous depiction of nature in bloom.

De Gournay X Erdem 5PinThe wallpapers are a kaleidoscopic springscape of flora and birds, with sparrows, warblers, pheasant and egrets nestled amongst hydrangeas, roses, hollyhock, irises, chrysanthemum and morning glory – all set against three vibrant colourways of ‘Golden Yellow’, ‘Adam Grey’ and a ‘Kelly Green’.

Each panel is painstakingly made, hand painted by de Gournay’s highly skilled artists in watercolour (it takes around 150 hours for six artists to produce one panel) to Erdem’s specifications that the birds appear especially full of life, darting through foliage, taking flight and energetically craning their necks.

De Gournay &Amp; Erdem Production ImageryPinThe Erdem team has taken elements of these vivacious designs as motifs, creating three separate capsule collections for this season, each with a different-coloured background – white for Net-a Porter, navy for Bergdorf Goodman and black for Erdem’s South Audley Street flagship and e-site.

The writing for this creative union has been on the wall ever since Hannah Cecil de Gournay – who runs the company along with her sister Rachel, father Claud Cecil Gurney and his nephew Dominic Evans-Freke – first clapped eyes on Erdem’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection.

De Gournay X Erdem 9PinInspired by the brocade dresses, embroidered with botanical patterns, and the balloon-skirted ball gowns, she initiated a conversation with the Canadian designer, and the collaboration was born. After a series of meetings between de Gournay design director Jemma Cave and Erdem, they created the hand painted design both for the wallpaper and as a fabric for a line of Erdem’s elegant silhouettes.

“The whole project felt like a very natural fit,” Erdem has said. “We both create pieces with a human hand, and we’re both dedicated to creating products that are of real quality. It’s remarkable when you see de Gournay wallpaper up close.”
