The British jewellers donating pieces to a charity auction to help women in Afghanistan

Some of the biggest names in jewellery have come together to support the vital cause

Since the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, there has been one question at the forefront of everyone’s minds: what will happen to the country’s women and girls? There is no doubt that their safety and rights are currently under enormous threat, which is why so many charities around the world have sprung into action to provide urgent help and support. Now, 25 of Britain’s leading independent jewellers have joined forces to launch a charity auction, Jewellers for Afghanistan, to raise vital funds for the charity Women for Afghan Women.

Organised by London-based jewellery PR Rosie Lillis, the auction will feature stand-out pieces from renowned jewellers including Solange Azagury-Partridge, Shaun Leane, Theo Fennell and Pippa Small, as well as emerging talent like Liv Luttrell, Otiumburg, Christopher Thompson-Royds and Rachel Boston. Each jeweller has donated an item of jewellery for the online auction retailing between £270 and £1,570, with all the pieces available to bid on through London fine art auction house Roseberys.

The bidding will run from Monday 27 September to Monday 4 October, and the auction house has generously decided to waive all fees to ensure that 100% of the proceeds go directly to Women for Afghan Women. The grassroots charity has worked tirelessly over the past two decades to become the largest women’s organisation in Afghanistan, providing life-changing services, education, and vocational training for women across the country – the money raised from the auction will help them to evacuate and provide urgent resources, shelter and care to vulnerable women, children and families during the ongoing crisis.

“As a new mum to a little girl, I am utterly horrified by the devastating scenes in Afghanistan and the grim reality that women of all ages are facing in the country,” says Rosie Lillis. “The threat to safety, basic rights to work and education – not to mention lives – is so real, and I want to help in whatever way I can to try and support those protecting the women and children most at risk.”
