Alex Steinherr reveals her favourite face mists to spritz this summer

The Glossary's Beauty Director Alessandra Steinherr shares her favourite facial sprays to hydrate, soothe and revitalise skin

Whether you’re at home or abroad, face mists are great on-the-go skincare when it’s warm outside. Spritz for a refreshing burst of hydration or include them in your skincare regime as an extra layer of moisture. From delicately-scented organic sprays to powerhouse spritzers that double up as serums, The Glossary‘s Beauty Director Alex Steinherr picks her favourite face mists for an instant glow this summer.

What I love about face mists is that they are multi-usage. In summer, they are one of my beauty saviours – I always have a face mist in my bag and on my desk to give my skin an extra moisture boost (many of them offer blue light protection). A little spritz when it’s hot is the perfect pick-me-up, especially if your make-up is feeling a bit sticky (remember if you use them regularly, you will need to top up your SPF). Facial mists also work as a toner as part of your daily skincare regime. I like to use one after my cleanser before my serum – or I might sandwich it between my serum and moisturiser – to lock in an extra layer of hydration. Either way, these are my go-to face mists to energise and rejuvenate skin in warm weather.

MY GO-TO FACE MISTS

Royal Fern
Radiance Protection Mist
£44

This brand has been developed by leading dermatologist Dr Timm Golueke and is based around the botanical benefits of the royal fern. The face mist is gorgeous – I love it. Not only does it provide an instant hydration hit, but it offers protection against urban pollution and blue light. Ingredients include fern extract, which is an antioxidant, as well as hyaluronic and polyglutamic acid, which works as a moisture binder – and then there’s the butterfly ginger to reduce pigmentation and brighten the skin. Plus, it’s fragrance-free, which many people prefer.

Ranavat
Hydrating Jasmine Mist
$45

If you like the smell of jasmine, as I do, then you’ll love this. Ranavat is built around the ancient tradition of ayurveda with ingredients chosen for their healing properties. This face mist contains 100% organic jasmine extract, and not only delivers a burst of moisture but it also has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties to protect the skin. Spray on post-cleanse before your serum or moisturiser, or mist throughout the day. Either way, this simple formula leaves skin beautifully conditioned.

Chanel
No1 de Chanel Revitalizing Serum-in-Mist
£67

While traditionally a face mist is designed to hydrate and refresh skin, this one is novel as it has all the added benefits of a serum too. The biphase formula (you have to shake it before use) is designed to be used under or over make-up, and once it’s sprayed onto the skin it creates a film to lock in moisture. The red camellia extract keeps the skin’s cells functioning at their optimum, protecting against environmental aggressors and boosting vitality and freshness every time you spritz, resulting in skin that’s deeply hydrated and dewy.

Omorovicza
Queen of Hungary Mist
£62

Inspired by the world’s first recorded perfume, made for Queen Elizabeth of Hungary in the 14th century, this face mist is a really beautiful formulation. It has a delicate scent – though they say neroli and rose, to me it’s very subtle neroli. Natural ingredients include orange blossom, rose and sage, which combine to instantly refresh and tone the skin, while apple pectin and glycerin deliver long-lasting hydration and balance out any excess oiliness. Skin feels more supple and refreshed – I use this mist a lot.

La Mer
The Mist
£66

As this is La Mer, the face mist is formulated with nourishing marine botanical extracts including algae (seaweed) extract and contains the brand’s Miracle Broth, a fermentation of sea kelp and other natural ingredients which infuses the skin with nutrients. Spray onto skin throughout the day to leave it feeling deeply hydrated, soothed and energised. The product also contains a live internal magnet to continually charge the ingredients.
